THE MOTH GALLERY

Moth Collage.jpg

MOTH (Mary Lapos – 1942 - ), American mixed media artist best known for her “penetrating depictions of the human condition via paintings that seem to reach past the canvas into the soul of her subject”. Her pseudonym, MOTH, representing the ideals of mystery, darkness/light and transformation, directly relates to her goals in art: expressing the unknown and the unseen and making them accessible to those who have the eyes to see. Her body of work encompasses, portraiture, plein air, abstraction and equine. She exhibits locally and nationally in galleries, museums and universities, and has had many one-woman shows throughout her native central PA valleys. Her art is held in private and corporate collections in North and South America, England, India and Ireland. Her goal in painting has always been to represent the condition of being and the shared commonalities of our collective journey. She explores with the viewer what is seen and what is not; what is known and what is yet to be known. Her latest efforts, drifting back and forth from realism to abstraction, are focused on the interior experience of her subject matter.

Hosterman Photography & Design is proud to partner with MOTH in photographing and reproducing her unique artwork in the form of Poster Prints and other reproductions.
